Allgemein

What exactly is the sun-a-wear UV Tracker?

The sun-a-wear UV Tracker is a small, wearable device that clips onto your clothing or accessories and tracks your real-time UV exposure.

It connects to a mobile app, helping you understand how much sun you're getting — and when it’s time to protect your skin.

What does it measure?

It measures UV radiation from the sun — specifically, how much UV your skin is exposed to in real time.

This gives you a personal UV index, based on your actual environment and activity.

How is this different from weather apps?

Weather apps show a general UV index for a region.

sun-a-wear measures your personal exposure, based on your exact location, movement, and time outdoors — making it far more relevant to your daily life.

Do I need to charge it?

No. The sun-a-wear UV Tracker is fully solar-powered and contains no battery.

It powers itself from sunlight — so it’s always on when you’re in the sun.

Is it waterproof?

Yes. The device is fully waterproof and built for outdoor use — including swimming, sweating, and all-weather conditions.

How do I wear it?

You can clip it onto your clothing, bag, hat, or gear.

It’s lightweight, flexible, and designed to fit seamlessly into your daily routine.

Who is this for?

Anyone who spends time outdoors — including athletes, outdoor workers, families, and everyday users who want to take better care of their skin.

Is it safe for children?

Yes. It’s a great tool for families. You can connect up to 4 trackers to one phone and monitor everyone’s exposure.

Is this a medical device?

No. sun-a-wear is a wellness product, not a medical device.

It provides data to support better decisions, but for medical concerns, you should consult a healthcare professional.

Do I need a dermatologist to use sun-a-wear?

No, sun-a-wear is designed to be simple and accessible for everyday use. You can start using it right away to better understand your UV exposure.

That said, if you have specific concerns about your skin, sun sensitivity, or medical history, it’s always a good idea to consult a healthcare professional.

What if my dermatologist doesn’t know about sun-a-wear?

That’s completely normal — sun-a-wear is a new type of wearable technology.

We always welcome feedback from medical professionals and are happy to share more information. If your dermatologist is interested, feel free to have them contact us at support@sun-a-wear.com.

Our goal is to complement professional guidance, not replace it 💛

Does it replace sunscreen?

No. It works together with sunscreen and other protection methods.

It helps you understand when to reapply or seek protection.

Does it prevent sunburn?

No, the device itself does not prevent sunburn.

What it does is help you understand your UV exposure in real time, so you can take action early, like applying sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, or seeking shade.

Anwendung

What does the app do?

The sun-a-wear app gives you:

  • Live updates on your UV exposure
  • Personalized alerts when it’s time to protect your skin
  • Historical exposure data and trends
  • Custom settings based on your skin sensitivity
  • Family tracking (up to 4 devices per phone)
  • Educational content about sun safety and UV

It helps you make informed decisions without guessing.

Does the app tell me to go into the sun?

No.

The app does not encourage sun exposure. It may notify you when exposure has been consistently low, suggesting you consider speaking with a healthcare professional about vitamin D, but it never tells you to “go into the sun.”

Does sun-a-wear integrate with Apple Health or other health apps?

Not yet, but it’s one of our most requested features, and we’re actively exploring it as part of our product roadmap.

Why does the app need location permission?

Location access is required for two reasons:

  • To provide accurate, location-based UV recommendations
  • On Android devices, location permission is required by the system to enable Bluetooth functionality, which is how the sensor communicates with your phone

This is a standard requirement for Bluetooth-enabled apps on Android.

Your location data stays on your device and is not stored or shared with our servers.

Why is my sensor not connecting?

This is usually related to Bluetooth, permissions, or the sensor not receiving enough light.

Make sure:

  • Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
  • All required permissions are granted (including location permission on Android, which is necessary for Bluetooth to work)
  • The sensor is exposed to sunlight (it needs light to power on)

💡 The sensor typically starts measuring at around UV index 0.1–0.2, so it may not activate in very low-light conditions.

If it still doesn’t work, try reinstalling the app and connecting the sensor again.

If the issue continues, feel free to contact us at support@sun-a-wear.com. We’re happy to help 💛

What happens if my sensor is out of range?

The sensor can temporarily store a small amount of data and sync it once it reconnects.

However, since it’s solar-powered, it needs light to keep working — if it stays covered too long, it may turn off and lose unsynced data.

Can I use it in a solarium?

No. The sensor is designed for natural sunlight and will not function correctly in artificial UV environments like solariums.

Sun & UV Education

What is the UV index?

The UV index indicates the strength of ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

Higher values mean a higher risk of skin damage, even if you don’t feel it immediately. Read more about UV Radiation here.

What is a skin type?

Skin type refers to how sensitive your skin is to UV exposure.

The app uses a standard classification (Fitzpatrick scale) to personalize your recommendations. Get to know more in our Knowledge Base.

How are UV recommendations calculated?

Our recommendations are based on:

This allows us to provide dynamic, time-specific guidance, not just general advice.
